RUGBY 2010 | S.THOMAS' COLLEGE v DHARMARAJA COLLEGE
The 6th week of the season, and the Thomians have never failed to make their alma mater proud by winning their games. The boys from Mount Lavinia travelled all the way up to the hill country this weekend to play their second game away from home against Dharmaraja College at the Bogambara Grounds on the 29th of May 2010.
The Thomians after winnings the game against the Cambrians by a massive margin the previous week, were determined to do the same at this game and were somewhat successfull until the last few minutes of the game where the Rajan's played some impressive rugby to reduce the margin of winning for the Thomians.
STC opened their scorecard minutes after the match commenced with center player Anuruddha Willawera scored with a try which was successfully converted. Skipper Rajindra Gunasekara added more points a few more minutes later with a try which was again successfully converted. Four minutes after the try was scored, winger Jeremy Fernando tounched down again which again was successfully converted to increase the Thomian lead 21-nil.
Fullback player Devin Jayasinghe who has been successfull throughout the season for converting most of the tries into goals including the 3 scored earlier in the match joined in the scoring troup as he touched down after infiltrating the Rajan's defences and then successfully converted the try to add more points after which Half Time was called and the scoreboard read 29-nil in favour of STC.
The Willawera Jayasinghe duo yet again came into the scene to add more points after play resumed from the half time break. Minutes later, Shewan Kapuwatte touched down to add more points but the conversion was unsuccessful. It was after this, that the Rajans got a breakthrough to open their scorecard with a try that could not be converted and thus the scoreboard read 40-5 in favour of the Thomians.
Jeremy Fernando was the last to score for the Thomians after which the Rajan's went into a comback mode to score 3 more tries of which one was successfully converted and to increase their points to 22 after which the scoreboard read 45-22 still in favour of STC. Minutes later, the whistle was blown confirming the 5th win for STC.
The day also saw some of the table toppers play against each other. With a win in this match, STC have now climed to the 2nd place in the points table while St.Peters College stay first and unbeaten.
The game will be back to the Big Club grounds in Mount Lavinia next week where STC will host St.Peters College on the 5th of June 2010 from 4.30pm onwards. The game will be one that is not to be missed as STC is the only remaining stronghold team in the league that St.Peters will be playing before playing against two table tail enders.
