A dissappointing week for the Thomians it has been. After drawing the match last week against the Peterites, the Thomians lost to the boys from the hill country at the match played on the 12th of June 2010 at the STC Grounds..
It was a game filled with excitement as the Kingswood players took the early lead in this game with a try that was unsucessful in the conversion. From this point onwards, the Kingwood players were unstoppable in their scoring as they kept scoring every few minutes and increased their lead with a drop goal and yet another try which was successfully converted this time.
Thomian center player Anuruddha Willewera was the hope of STC as he open the Thomian scorecard with a try few minutes before half time was called but the try was not successfully converted. Thus as half time Kingswood lead 22-05.
The second half saw the Thomians in a come back strategy as they denied the Kindwood players any oppotunities in scoring for the whole of the second half of play while the Thomians themselves scored a few time to increase their scores. Minutes after play resumed from half time, center player Anuruddha Willewera broke through the defense and scored with a try which was then successfully converted by Devin Jayasinghe. After much hype, second row player Dinuk de Silva scored for the Thomians at the very last seconds of the match after which the refree blew his whistle to confirm the victory of Kingswood College with the scoreboard reading 22-17 in favour of the visitors.
With this loss, STC now steps down to 3rd place in the points table while Kingswood climb to 2nd.
Next week STC play their last match of the season against traditional rivals Royal College which is also the Royal Thomian encounter for the sport of Rugby on the 19th of June 2010 at the Royal College Sports Complex from 4.30pm onwards.
